Junior Events

Junior Mystery Weeekend - Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 to Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 5:00 pm to 12:00 pm, Camp Hoffman, W. Kingston, RI.  Cost $68.00 tent camping fee plus $5.00 program fee per girl.  Deadline: Sept. 15, 2007  Troops will bring own troop camp equipment, food, and overnight gear.   A fun-filled weekend of "mysterious" events that will include programs planned by a special committee.  At least one adult in every group must be Troop Camp trained. To register:  Fill out Troop Camp Application & Reservation Form and mail to council office.  Be sure to include number of girls and adults attending.

 

Girl Scouts 11-17

Time to Travel- Spain & France 2009!
Get all the answers: Parents/guardians and girls are welcome to join us for an informational meeting about GSRI's trip to France & Spain in 2009.  The meeting will take place at the GSRI office in Providence, RI on Wednesday, August 22, 2007  from 6:30-8:00 PM .  Topics will cover the itinerary, cost, safety, fundraising and we will discuss the commitment needed by all girls (and their families) participating in this event.  Girls interested in attending this trip MUST bring a parent/guardian.  Please RSVP by May 5, 2007 to Amber Fearn at (401)331-4500 ext. 1419 or afearn@gsri.org- title: Time to Travel 09.

Boston Harbor Island Campout with the Appalachian Mountain Club (Youth Opportunities Program)
August 16-17, 2007 6:30 AM Thursday to approximately 4:30 PM Friday
(drop off and pick up at council office in Providence)
Cost is $13 per girl (covers food, bus to ferry, ferry to islands, program)
A great opportunity to meet kids in youth groups from all over New England at a camp-out.  Activities will include games, island tour, science/ environmental study, scavenger hunt, etc.  Girls will explore 2 islands- Bumpkin (where they will sleep) and George’s Islands.  Transportation will be included.  Bring bag lunch.  Register with GSRI/Amber.
 

Real Rock Climbing with RI Rock Gym
Dates:  September 8, 2007 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Cost:   $38.00 per girlGirls will learn about the natural geological formations and practice bouldering and top-rope climbing on formations in Lincoln Woods and Snake Den State Park, spending about 1 ½ hours at each place.  Please provide each girl’s shoe size when registering.  Register with GSRI/Amber.

GSRI has program boxes available for troops to borrow.  Each box has numerous activites to provide theme related programs for troop meetings.  Program materials are purchased by the troop.  There is a complete list in each box.  For more information about the boxes please contact Pat Smith at 401-331-4500 ext 1405.

Special Programs

Anytime - Brownie Girl Scouts

Providence Children's Museum Patches & Pizza Programs:  Location: Providence Children's Museum.  Brownies will earn a Try-It while enjoying hands on activities and workshops.  Snack on pizza, juice, & cookies.  Spend the evening exploring the Museum.  Friday night programs are available.   To register, contact Providence Children's Museum at (401) 273-5437 ext. 234. Anytime - Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts

Museum of Natural History and Cormack Planetarium : Dates - Saturday afternoons, Location - Roger Williams Park, Providence.  The Museum of Natural History located at Roger Williams Park in Providence has developed four new badge programs for Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts.  Attend an afternoon session and Brownies can complete either the Space Explorer Try-It or the Eco-Explore Try-It.  Juniors can earn the Sky-Search Badge or the Rocks, rock badge.  Activites may include a visit to the Cormack Planetarium, exploring discovery stations, scavenger hunts, making a star finder, mapping the night sky, or making a piece of granite.  Activities will depend on the badge program completed.  To register, call the Museum's Education Department at (401) 785-9457 ext. 247, office hours: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Council Training Schedule

Troop Camp Training

Purpose:  To provide adults with the basic knowledge, skills, planning, methods and techniques to enable troops to have a successful troop camp experience.

Prerequisite for All Troo Camp Training:  Completed Basic Leadership Outdoor Day

Successful completion of TROOP CAMP TRAINING will qualify an adult to take a troop cabin and/or platform tent camping.  Troop Camp courses consist of 6 hours of classroom sessions and Saturday, 8:00 am to Sunday, 3:00 pm of hands-on training.  Attendance at ALL sessions of each course is MANDATORY for completion.  FEE -$15.00

AEC #1805 Preparation: Tuesdays, August 22 & 29, 2006, 6:30 to 9:30 pm, GSRI Council Office.   Overnight: Saturday Sept. 9 to Sunday Sept. 10, 2006, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Camp Hoffman, W. Kingston. RI.  Register with GSRI.
