DO NOT CALL AFTER 8 PM, leave email marked cookies- she checks her mail every day!!. Thanks! ~Please make sure your girls and cookie mom ARE REGISTERED! ~If you have late registering girls it is not to late to join the sale ~Make sure you tell Linda where your booth sales will be. You are responsible for getting the place in JOHNSTON only unless you have permission from Mare or another Service Unit Manager. ~Keep extra sheets to keep selling, re-orders may NOT be possible the day of delivery but keep them safe- we'll get them out ASAP!!

~Training opportunities are always available to YOU!! Troop camping, out door day, level change, program aide for girls 7th and above. Look on the web site. There have to be at least 10 girls for program aide training.
**Troops needed to volunteer time and talents to Nursing Home - Please sign up your troop at least once, Park View Nursing Home, No. Kinstown - Needed on Sundays to keep residents company, to visit, make things with, play board games, etc. Please call Mare- any ages.
***Troops NEEDED for Ronald McDonald House - Please help the Senior Girls with their Gold Award and earn hours for yourself. Have to be accompanied by and adult, wear uniforms. Anyone can go help anytime, call Mare 351-5213 for ideas and to set up times. February vacation would be an excellent time to come help. Flyers were passed out to leaders (look under forms). Tabitha and Kaitlyn will be there on Monday and Wednesday of Feb. Vacation if you would like to go and help. They will be collecting until the end of June. This would be a good field trip for your troop. DONATIONS ARE NEEDED!! SEE FLYER!
~Thinking day activities - Thinking day is Feb. 22, 2008, this is a time to reflect on Girl Scouts everywhere, near and far, Lots of activities listed on web site. Have fun during your meeting or make a day out of it visiting another council. Activies include: Juliette Low World Friendship Fund, Collect postcards through other states, do an activity with another troop near or far, Golden links ceremony, link to project line, learn about and explore a new country, make food, wear same clothing, learn about theory cultures, make a craft.. Collect stamps. Make new girl scout pen pals.
~Wnat to go skiing, skating, tubing?? Yagoo is the right place here in RI. Also suggested by Allison is Amesbery for snow tubing, alot of fun and about $20 for 3 hours.
~Looking for something different to do with your troop? Visit Historical places in RI and earn try-its, badges or IPP patches. Go on line for more info at www.RIHistoricalsociety.com ,Troop 172 just visited Sprague Mansion it was awesome.
~2008 Camp Catalog will be arriving soon in your homes! It may look like a big poster, again do not throw it away. Lots of opportunities for early bird sign ups. moms with tots, moms to work their older girl programs. Please register ASAP. Don't forget about cookie credits- only oner per girl. You do not have to send that in at the time you register.
~At booth cookie sales make camping posters. Help promote camp this year. Last year we were 5th percentile in council for going to girl scout camp. congrats Johnston!
~Bridging date has been set for Thursday, May 29, 2008, 6:30 pm at Ferri. Please let us know if anyone is bridging form your troop and to what level. Start bridging activities soon, get together with a troop from the next level. if you have a bi level troop find others the same age and do something with them. Make sure you complete al lthe steps found in the back of the girl's girl scout books or go to the website. Call Mare for ideas.
~Dates to Remembers: Girl Scout Week - March 9 - 15th Girl Scout Sunday - Sunday, March 11, go to mass in uniform Project Undercover - Chair Heather Ingram, march 31 to april 30. Kick off may be at Monster mini golf on March 30 from 1 - 3 pm, Heather will let us know when booked.
~Next meeting will be the association meeting, time and date to be announced.
~ Please remember ONLY registered leaders and assistant leaders may purchase badges or any official recognistions! Fun patches if not purchased by the leaders can not be worn on the vest they have to be put on a bag, etc. Only ones received by leaders or from a girl scout event can be worn on the back of their vests. Any questions call Mare.
~SMART is on May 18th, a $2 dep. pp is due to council by April 18th.

Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007 Unit Leader Meeting Attended by: Mare, Amy, Linda, Eleanor, Valerie, Louann, Apple Valley Leaders/Service Team, Lori Pansa and Jeanne Rogers.
~ Next meeting will be our Cookie Training on December 11, 2007 at Mare's House. 6:00 for new leaders, 7:00 for experienced leaders. Please bring a snack to share and an ornament to exchange.
~ Tabitha Watkinson gave a presentation about "Golden Helping Hands" her Gold Award project along with Kaitlyn. This project is to help Ronald McDonald house by making collections of items needed by the house, bringing awareness of the good deeds the house provides. And hopefully getting more people to volunteer. Volunteers are needed to cook, clean, file, and many other needs of the house. A copy of the flyer is in the flyer section of the website.
~ Project Undercover - this year they would like to do Project Undercover a little different. Details have not been worked out yet, but they are hoping to plan something on earth day. Jeanne and Lori explained that they would like to seperate Service units by the bike paths we are located near. And have us meet there to collect diapers. And the service unit to collect the most diapers will win a prize. Everything has not been worked out yet, more info will come. Service units can continue to have their own Project Undercover event. The kick off day at Roger Williams Park this year is on March 29th.
~ IPOD Raffle - any girl scout who brings a friend during the month of November and the friend joins Girl Scouts during November. She will be entered into a raffle to win an IPOD.
~ Meeting was finished off with a game of "Safety Wise Jeopardy", this game is available at council if you would like to borrow it to play with your troops.

Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 Leader/Service Team meeting Attended by: Mare (SUM, 172), Heather (1026), Amy (1149), Linda (PC,CC), Kathy (171), Allison (1061 & 133), Eleanor (1061 & 32, PC), Valerie (193 & 1026)
~ Registration is Thursday, Sept. 20, 6:30 pm at Ferri. Any leader available to attend and help out is welcomed and needed. There will also be a Brownie meeting taking place at the time of sign ups.
~ Magazine sale dates are from Sept 10 to Oct 31.
~ Meeting schedule, we will be having area association meetings with Jeanne Rogers. At the meetings we will meet as one and then break up in to our Service Units. There will also be a couple of meetings with just Johnston Girl Scout Leaders. The schedule is: Sept. 11th - all Johnston Leaders October 23rd - November - NO MEETING December 11th - Mare's house/ Cookie Training, 6 pm for new leaders/cookie moms, 7 pm for experienced leaders/cookie moms. Bring a munchie to share and a wrapped ornament to exchange. Januaray 22nd - Area Association Meeting, 7 pm at Graniteville Baptist Church February - NO MEETING March - Association Meeting, Date, time, location TBA April - NO MEETING May - Association Meeting, Date, time, location TBA June -
The Delegate this year will be Amy Carvalho Project Undercover Coordinator will be Heather Ingram Community Bridging Ceremony will take place on May 29, 2008 Fall Hayride will be on 9/30/07 at 2 pm, will have flyers at fall sign up. Cookie Sale kick off for Service Team is Saturday, Nov 17th 8-12 at the Marriot. Holiday Party - Friday, December 7th. Eleanor will file a school use form for the night. Everyone will be asked to bring an unwrapped toy for toys for tots and $3.00 for cookies & patch.
~ Johnston Apple Festival - there will be a Girl Scout booth. They will be passing out flyers for Ronald McDonald House and selling troop 172 cookbooks. The biggest things needed are paper towels, garbage bags and personal items. The festival is Sept 22-23. Tabith and Kaitlin are doing this for their Gold Award. They will be collecting items up till March. Project is called "Golden Healping Hands"
~ Health expo will be at the Convention Center will be Sept. 15 & 16, There will be a girl scout booth set up.
~ Thanksgiving - have everyone bring in food for Ronald McDonald House.
~ Trainings will be done during leader meetings.
~ Magazine packets were handed out to all leaders in attendance

Tuesday, May 22, 2007 Leader Meeting
~ There will be a Memorial Mass at Graniteville Baptiste Church on Monday, May 28th. Girl Scouts has been invited to join, please have the girls dress in uniform and be there at 11:45. Any questions, please contact Mare.
~ Mare will be getting new Crisis Procedure forms, Mutual of Omaha Insurance Forms and distriputing them to the leaders. You should have these forms on you at all troop and community events.
~ Please contact Tammy as soon as possible to drop off your Registration Forms for 07-08.
~ The Cookie Incentives are not in yet. Hopefully they will be in by the Bridging Ceremony and leaders can pick them up there. We will keep you updated.
~ If you have any money problems in your troop - please contact Mare privately.
~ Bridging and Higher Awards - Please invite your Troops even if they are not Bridging. The Ceremony is on Thursday, June 7 at 6:00 pm, Ferri Middle School. All girls in the Flag Ceremony need to be there at 5:30. Girls should be in uniform. If they don't have the official Girl Scout Uniform, please have them in Khaki bottoms and white tops with their vest.
~ We need all the names of girls who are bridging with their troop numbers and what levels they are bridging to. Please contact Eleanor with this information.
~ Rosters/addistions/more sign up materials-help, troubleshooting, please contact Tammy
~ There will be a new Registration process in September for new girls joining. Sign up night will be Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007 at 6:30, Ferri Middle School. All girls interested in joining will be invited to come and fill out an interest form. They will then be placed on a list and placed into troops by Tammy. Mare will hold a meeting for girls to register and recruite new Leaders. We are in need of a New Daisy, Brownie and Junior Leaders.
~ There are positions open on the Service Team, if you are interested please contact Mare.
~ There are going to be changes in Council programs, so we will be having changes in troops also. There are a couple of troops splitting levels in September and changing thier meeting places. Please notify Tammy of when and where your troop will be meeting. As of October 2008 Council will be changed the age levels of girl scouts. Daisys will be K - 1, Brownies will be 2 & 3 grade, Juniors will be 4 & 5 grades, Cadettes will be 6 & 7th grade and Seniors will be 10 - 12th grade. All troops are staying the same right now, these changes do not take effect until 2008.
~ Next year, Jeanne Rogers is going to be holding three meetings a year with Johnston, Apple Valley, Yankee B., Smithfield and North Providence. To get the leaders together to share ideas and get new info and procedures from Council.
~ Service Stars - Every girl who registers with Girl Scouts should receive a service star even if they do not continue with your troop through the year.
~ High School Musical is coming to PPAC, Eleanor will get Details
~ Religious Awards - if anyone in your troop is interested in earning a religious award. The cost is $7.00, this can not be worked on during troop meetings. This is for the girls to work on at home with their family. Or you can set up a seperate meeting for them to work on it. If you are interesed in the Catholic Religious Award please contact Mare.
