These are all the trainings GSRI has schedule at this time.  This will be updated as new dates are available.   To register for a training, you must contast GSRI.


TRAINING COURSE DESCRIPTIONS AND SCHEDULE

 

Adult Training

 

Basic Leadership Training

Purpose:  To develop basic competencies needed to be a Girl Scout leader; age level program design, indoor/outdoor activities, group management, girl development valuing and promoting diversity, leadership skills, safety awareness, council policies and procedures.

Attendance:  All sessions and Outdoor Day are required.

Bring:    GSRI Leader Manual and appropriate age-level books if you have them.  Books will be available for sale.  For the Outdoor Day or all-day session, bring a BAG LUNCH.

TROOP/GROUP CAMP TRAINING

Purpose:  To provide adults with the basic knowledge, skills, planning, methods and techniques to enable troops to have a successful troop camp experience.

Prerequisite for ALL Troop Camp Training:  Completed Basic Leadership Outdoor Day.  Successful completion of Troop Camp Training will qualify an adult to take a troop cabin and/or platform tent camping.  Attendance at ALL sessions of each course is mandatory for completion.

TROOP TRIPS 2

Troop Trips 2 is required for all leaders of Juniors and up planning trips of more than 150 miles beyond their communities.

FIRST AID/CPR

First Aid and CPR training are required for at least one adult accompanying troops on trips or outings.  Completion of the above courses will meet the First Aid requirement of the Leadership Development Award.

FEE - $20 payable day of training - cash or check only

 

RANGER TRAINING - Adults who have completed Troop Camp Training

Volunteers who complete this training will be eligible to spend weekends at Camp Hoffman in W. Kingston as Rangers, people who are on-call to answer questions and help troops and groups using the facilities.

PROGRAM AIDE FOR ADULTS

The GSUSA Program Aide design will be offered to all 11-17  leaders or other adults who wish to give Program Aide training to girls in grades seven through twelve.

GIRL TRAINING

PROGRAM AIDE

Prerequisite:    7th to 9th Grades

Purpose:             Complete the Program Aide Training course and learn how to select, plan and present age-appropriate activities to younger girls.  Develop leadership skills and use your training to serve in a leadership capacity to meet the requirements of the Silver or Gold Leadership award.

Saturday, November 17 - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Camp Rocky Farm, Newport, RI

 LIT-1

Prerequisite:  For girls who have completed 9th grade by June 2006

Prepare:         By reviewing your GSUSA Program Aide notes.  If  you have not done the Program Aide training, you may still attend LIT-I.

Fee:              $10.00 (lodging, beverages, LIT-1 Manual & LIT-1 pin)

LIT-2

Prerequisites:   In Grade 10 or older, completed Leader-in-Training, part 1, Camp experience (troop, day or resident) and familiar with outdoor skills

Purpose:             At the end of this training, a girl will be able to organize and run (with standard adult supervision) troop/group outdoor program, including troop/group camp.

Fee:                                      $15 for overnight food and lodging
